P098 YOUTH IDENTITY RESILIENCE IN THE DIGITAL ERA: AN ISLAMIC SOCIOLOGICAL APPROACH IN A PLURALISTIC SOCIETY

Abstract

Globalisation and the presence of social media have significantly altered the socio-cultural landscape of Malaysia's pluralistic society. It exposes the youth to foreign cultural norms, hedonism, and polarized digital discourse. At the same time, Islamic values are recognized as a foundational pillar for national harmony, but empirical insights into how youth apply these principles as internal digital filters remain limited. This study uses a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method based on the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA). Data synthesis was conducted on 50 peer-reviewed research articles published between 2021 and 2026 from major databases such as Scopus, Web of Science (WoS), and Google Scholar. The analysis of the literature produced a conceptual framework for Islamic Digital Filtering, which includes three main dimensions. First, the cognitive dimension emphasises the application of Islamic principles in filtering false information and extremism. Second, the behavioural dimension focuses on digital adab to counter the culture of hedonism and flex culture. Third, the social dimension incorporates Ukhuwwah Insaniyyah and Maqasid al-Syariah to maintain harmony across ethnic groups. This study offers a new theoretical framework that integrates modern sociological theory along with Islamic sociological principles. From a practical perspective, this framework provides significant guidelines for policymakers, educational institutions, and youth agencies to design a value-based digital literacy standard to ensure the well-being and sustainability of a plural society.
