P076 Artificial Intelligence for Community Empowerment: Integrating Islamic Values and Digital Social Innovation
Abstract
Artificial Intelligence (AI) has emerged as a transformative technology with the potential to empower communities by enhancing access to education, healthcare, digital entrepreneurship, public service delivery, and social innovation. However, the development and deployment of AI must be guided by an ethical framework that ensures fairness, transparency, accountability, and societal well-being. In an Islamic context, these principles align with the values of Maqasid al-Shariah, which emphasize the preservation of religion, life, intellect, lineage, and property as the foundation for sustainable human and societal development. Consequently, this paper aims to explore the role of AI in community empowerment through the integration of Islamic values and digital social innovation. The study employs a conceptual approach, grounded in a literature review, to synthesise and analyse literature on AI, digital social innovation, community empowerment, and Islamic ethics. Furthermore, a conceptual framework is proposed to elucidate the relationship between AI, digital social innovation, and Islamic values in supporting inclusive and sustainable community development. The discussion also examines the potential applications of AI in education, healthcare, entrepreneurship, social welfare, and community development, while identifying challenges such as algorithmic bias, the digital divide, data privacy, and AI governance. This paper argues that integrating AI with Maqasid al-Shariah principles and digital social innovation can foster a technological ecosystem that is more ethical, human-centric, and beneficial to society. These conceptual findings are intended to serve as a reference for policymakers, educational institutions, researchers, and community organizations in developing AI solutions that are responsible, inclusive, and aligned with Islamic values.
