Abstract

Funeral management is an obligation, which is fard kifayah that needs to be emphasized by at least one Muslim in one community.
However, the practice in the management of remains is also influenced by some practices and tools that give their own significance to the local community.
This writing is exploratory through a qualitative approach (interview) and literature review which aims to see the cultural practices of the Melanau community
specifically in relation to the management of remains which provides a perspective that may differ according to tradition and custom especially in Sarawak.
Sarawak is a unique state with ethnic and cultural diversity, one of the most in Malaysia. Looking at the practices and equipment used in ensuring that the last respect
process is still in line with the Sharia, there are several things that need to be researched and taken into account in the urf and local customs.
Some of these practices will be seen from an Islamic point of view, but it must be emphasized that these practices cover the practices of the community in general
and a detailed study is very necessary to ensure the extent to which these practices are still practiced by the community in line with Islamic law.
