Abstract

By paying attention to issues involving socioscientific and sociocultural, the ability to understand environmental crises, inequalities in social interaction due to technology and national identity crises due to the current of globalization increases the tendency of a nationalist insight to decline within Indonesian citizens themselves. This decline resulted in a lack of concern for the environment and social interaction with people around him. For this reason, the need for alternative solutions through science learning to foster national insight. In this study, participants consisted of natural science students who had brought teaching practices in several junior high schools and had completed all science courses that were completed in more than 7 semesters. Data collection was carried out through a survey using a questionnaire and then analyzed descriptively quantitatively. The results of the analysis are then followed up in a semi-structured interview stage about the role of scientific knowledge in environmental, social and national insights and effective science learning used in enhancing national outlook. The results show that scientific knowledge plays a greater role in social care followed by a loving attitude towards the homeland, and the last concern for the environment. Based on these findings, science learning must be directed at efforts to empower science education for the sustainability and reform of the smart citizenship movement as a solution that can be applied in the development of school science curricula.
