Abstract

This study provides a comprehensive bibliometric overview tracking the evolution of scientific research on environment-based tourism management from 2001 to 2025. Drawing on 187 publications from SINTA- and Scopus-indexed journals, the findings reveal that while academic interest has fluctuated over the past two decades, it experienced a significant surge between 2012 and 2018, followed by a sharp resurgence in 2023. The dataset comprises 17 SINTA-indexed and 170 Scopus-indexed articles, with the vast majority featured in high-impact, Q1-ranked journals. Through network visualization, the study maps out six interconnected keyword clusters centered around sustainable tourism, environmental management, ecotourism, and tourism destination. Furthermore, overlay analysis highlights ecotourism and environmental sustainability as the driving forces of contemporary discourse. Concurrently, density analysis underscores environment and tourism management as heavily saturated themes, while exposing critical, under-explored gaps in areas such as tourism impact and the physical environment. Ultimately, these insights serve as a strategic roadmap for researchers looking to navigate and shape the future of environment-based tourism studies.
