Abstract
Islam places a great emphasis on ethical and moral issues. Integrity which ensures transparency, honesty and reliability in business transactions, decision-making processes, and transactions with stakeholders is one of the values that is highlighted by teachings of Islam. Thus, integrity in professional Muslim workforces is essential to uphold ethical values and preserve the reputation of Islamic organizations. The question is how religiosity affects the integrity of professional Muslim workforces? By what mean does religiosity affect integrity and how to amend one’s religiosity in order to increase integrity? Hence, the main objective of this current study is to identify the principles of integrity of professional Muslim workforces. A qualitative study using grounded theory approach was conducted to answer the research questions. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with eight professional Muslim workforces from Jabatan Akauntan Negara Malaysia (JANM) and Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Sarawak. To increase validity of data obtained, content analysis on library research data on verses of al-Quran and hadits were conducted. Findings from the interviews indicated that there are three elements of religiosity that affects the integrity of the Muslims. These elements include appreciation (Iman), practice (Islam) and Ihsan. Thus, the results are suggested as a basic prerequisite in developing, evaluating, and utilizing Islamic integrity self-assessment tool model for the professional Muslim workforces in Malaysia.
